SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police say a Savannah woman shot her 11-year-old daughter while the girl was sleeping in bed.
Savannah-Chatham County police spokeswoman Judy Pal says investigators don't believe the Monday morning shooting was an accident, but she declined to give a motive.
The girl survived and was being treated at a local hospital.
Pal said the victim's mother is undergoing an assessment, but would not
be more specific.
She says the mother has not been charged and was not injured.
Police did not immediately release the names of the woman or her daughter.
Pal says police were called to the woman's home early Monday by a neighbor who thought a burglar had been shot.
They found the girl in her bed with a gunshot wound.
