House to vote on Ga. transportation tax increase

ATLANTA (AP) - The sour economy hasn't exactly put the kibosh on all tax increases.

Georgia lawmakers are scheduled to debate today whether to allow voters to sign off on a statewide one-percent sales tax increase that would pay for transportation improvements.

The Senate has already approved a separate plan that would allow counties to band together to levy the penny tax hike on regional transportation projects.
