ATLANTA (AP) - Utility providers say 57,000 Georgia households remain without power, after a Sunday snow storm blanketed the region.
Georgia Power spokeswoman Carol Boatright says 28,000 customers remain without power early today, all but a thousand of them in the Athens area. The remainder are in metro Atlanta.
Georgia Electric Membership Corporation reports 29,000 customers are without power, down from 34,000 at sun up. Some 16,000 customers were affected by damage to a transmission line and two substations in Jackson and Madison counties.
Officials say the power loss was caused by snow weighing down limbs and knocking them onto power lines.
