Augusta Man Dead in Apartment Fire

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - An apartment complex fire in Augusta has
killed one man and left the residents of 20 units temporarily
homeless.

Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald says 58-year-old John Fox Dryden
III died in Saturday morning's blaze on his birthday.

Augusta Fire Chief Howard Willis says the fire at Richmond
Summit was limited to Dryden's apartment. Dryden was
wheelchair-bound.

Willis says nearby apartments had smoke and water damage. He
says a sprinkler system prevented more damage. The fire was
reported about 3 a.m. Saturday. The cause remains under
investigation.
