Cox announces finalists for top Ga. teacher

ATLANTA (AP) - State schools Superintendent Kathy Cox has
announced 10 finalists from 147 selected in their school districts
for Georgia Teacher of the Year for 2010.

The 10, their schools and subjects are: Tiffany Todd, Southeast
Bulloch High, U.S. history and drama; Mark Lang, Camden Middle,
life science; Gwen Desselle, Colquitt County High, social studies;
Michele Rigsby, BelAir Elementary (Columbia County), fourth grade;
Suzy Besson-Martilotta, Chattahoochee Elementary (Forsyth County),
first grade; Merrill Boynton-Cheyne, Carver Middle (Harris County),
drama, reading, journalism; Sandy Akin, East Jackson Comprehensive
High, mathematics; Krista Pearson, Lowndes High, mathematics;
Kathie Wood, Marietta Middle, language arts; Jennifer Beckum Irvin,
Toombs County High, British literature and drama.
