ATLANTA (AP) - MARTA is putting a dozen self-cleaning toilets into storage after the devices installed for $1.6 million buckled under high usage at a downtown train station.
The less than three-year-old, German-engineered toilets were at the Five Points station. But The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports at any given time, half were out of commission due to leaks and other problems.
A Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority spokeswoman says the steel pods will be removed through the weekend and placed in a storage garage until the transit system finds a less busy station in which to place them.
State Sen. Vincent Fort, an Atlanta Democrat, questioned MARTA's
spending on the modern devices.
