7-year-old boy struck, killed in school crosswalk

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) - DeKalb police say the driver of a
sport utility vehicle will be charged with vehicular homicide and
other offenses after a 7-year-old boy was struck and killed walking
in a crosswalk near a crossing guard.

Police have not named the child killed near Princeton Elementary
School, not far from Stone Mountain, about 7:30 a.m. Monday. Police
believe the driver of the SUV was taking her own child to a
different school.

DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish says police are still
determining why the unidentified driver didn't stop. She says the
woman will be charged.

The child was pronounced dead on the way to a hospital. No other
children were in the crosswalk.

The driver was taken to a hospital for observation.
