Nonprofit gives money for low-income heating aid

ATLANTA (AP) - An Atlanta-based nonprofit that provides energy
assistance statewide to low-income Georgians has given over $1
million toward helping families pay their heating bills.

The Heating Energy Assistance Team Inc. made the contribution of
$1,020,649 to the Georgia Department of Human Resources.

DHR is distributing the state's $80.4 million share of federal
heating and energy aid to low-income families.

HEAT distributes emergency heating funds from private sources
across the state. The organization recently marked a 17 percent
downturn in corporate gifts.

The recent donation came from gifts by private citizens and
natural gas companies, including Georgia Natural Gas and SCANA
Energy. Additional money came from the Georgia Public Service
