Missing Soldier Back at Fort Stewart

FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) - Fort Stewart officials say a soldier
reported missing earlier this month has returned unharmed to the
Georgia Army post.

Savannah-Chatham County police began searching for Sgt. Charlana
McKenzie on Jan. 12 after she failed to pick up her teenage
daughter from school.

They suspended their search four days later after the
32-year-old McKenzie was spotted alone and unharmed trying to check
into a hotel in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Maj. Lee Peters, a Fort Stewart spokesman, said Thursday that
McKenzie returned to her unit last weekend. Peters said her
commanding officer did not yet know why she vanished.

The Army had listed McKenzie as being absent without leave.
Peters said her commander could seek an administrative punishment,
a court-martial or pursue no punishment at all.
