ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Pride Festival is returning to
The gay pride festival will be held in the fall rather than its
usual time in late June. City officials and festival organizers
said Monday the festival is now scheduled for Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.
The festival was last held in Piedmont Park in June 2007.
Last year Pride organizers held the festival at Atlanta's civic
center and said crowds and revenues were down from past years when
the festival was held in the park.
Atlanta has been reluctant to allow many large events in
Piedmont Park since late 2007 when state officials announced
drought restrictions. Atlanta officials have said they were worried
it will take longer for the park's grass to recover from major
events during the drought.
