The Jekyll Island Easter festival will be replaced by a festival
April 18 that combines it with the Georgia Sea Turtle Center's
Organizers hope to increase overnight motel stays, reduce the strain on event resources and draw one large crowd instead of two smaller ones.
The marketing director for the Jekyll Island authority, Eric Garvey, says attendance at the island's Easter festival has dropped the past several years.
He says the island has been unable to compete with egg hunts at large churches since the loss of the Georgia Egg Commission's sponsorship of th egg hunt years ago.
