Police find missing Ga. soldier in Florida

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Savannah police say a missing Fort Stewart soldier has been found in Florida, where she traveled without telling her family or the Army.

Savannah-Chatham County police spokesman Gene Harley said Friday that Army Sgt. Charlana McKenzie appeared to be unharmed and traveled to West Palm Beach, Fla., of her own free will.

Harley could not say why McKenzie left her home - and her 14-year-old daughter - in Savannah.

The 32-year-old McKenzie was reported missing after she failed to pick up her daughter from school Monday. She is a medic with the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart.

Harley said police didn't detain McKenzie because she hadn't committed any crimes. He said police have notified the Army and the state Division of Family and Children Services.
