Georgia received mostly failing grades in the
American Lung Association's annual report on tobacco control.
The group says Georgia's Medicaid program does not cover tobacco
cessation programs. Georgia also spends less than the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention recommends on programs to help
Additionally, Georgia's cigarette tax - 37 cents a pack - trails
the national average. The lung association and other health
organizations are pushing for a $1-per-pack increase on cigarette
taxes this legislative session.
