AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - An Augusta woman who fatally stabbed her two
small children inside a convenience store bathroom 13 months ago
has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
A psychiatrist and a psychologist testified Wednesday that
23-year-old Jeanette Hawes met the legal definition of insanity.
They said she suffered paranoid delusions and could not tell the
difference between right and wrong when she killed 3-year-old
Shakayla and 1-year-old Jordan Hawes Nov. 29, 2007.
Hawes will be committed to a state mental hospital and can only
be released by Superior Court Judge J. Carlisle Overstreet, who
ruled after Hawes waived her right to a jury trial.
