ATLANTA (AP) - Lawmakers will honor the city's police and fire
departments for their quick response after a pedestrian walkway
collapsed last month at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
The first responders will be recognized with a proclamation to be presented at Monday's council meeting. The accident occurred on Dec. 19 when part of the soaring walkway - as tall as 40 feet its height - gave way as construction workers were pouring concrete onto it. The collapse killed 66-year-old worker Angel Chupin and injured 18 others.
The first responders had the victims en route to local hospitals in under an hour.
