WOODBINE, Ga. (AP) - Camden County Sheriff-elect Tommy Gregory
says 26 employees will be notified Friday that they will not have
jobs as of Jan. 4.
Gregory said Monday that the majority hold management positions,
but two deputies will also get the letter.
Some of them will be replaced by former employees who were among
13 who Sheriff Bill Smith fired in January 2005 after being
Gregory was one of those deputies fired by Smith four years ago.
Gregory, who defeated Smith in the July Republican primary, said
he struggled with the decision because some employees have been
with the department for 20 years or more.
But he said he wants employees he can trust and have a good work ethic.
