A sheriff's official confirms that a 50-year-old Winder man hanged himself with socks inside a Jackson County Jail cell, but declined to release his name.
Sheriff's Maj. David Cochran says the man was brought to the jail by Arcade police about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and booked on charges of open container, public drunkenness and theft by taking.
Cochran says the man's body was found in his cell later that same day.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents and deputies are reviewing surveillance tapes to ensure that jailers followed proper
Cochran says the sheriff's office does not usually release the identity of suicide victims.
