Widow: Army husband's slaying not military's fault

FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) - The wife of a slain Fort Stewart soldier says she doesn't blame the military for his death last month in Iraq, where he was allegedly killed by a member of his Army unit.

Brandi Durbin spoke to reporters for the first time Wednesday during a news conference. Her husband, Sgt. Wesley Durbin, was fatally shot Sept. 14 along with another noncommissioned officer. A fellow sergeant in their unit has been charged with murder in their deaths.

Brandi Durbin said she's hurt by the circumstances of her husband's death, but still feels strongly that he died for his country.

Fort Stewart will dedicate trees to Durbin and Staff Sgt. Darris Dawson, who also died in the attack, Thursday.

The soldier charged with their deaths, Sgt. Jospeph Bozicevich remains jailed in southern Georgia.
