Georgia Man Shoots Himself After Police Chase

BREMEN, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a Georgia man fatally shot
himself after a police chase that began in eastern Alabama, where
he ran over a sheriff's deputy investigating a domestic dispute.

Randolph County Deputy Donnie Grant Jr. was airlifted to an
Atlanta hospital. Sheriff Jeff Fuller said late Tuesday afternoon
that Grant is in intensive care but in stable condition at Atlanta
Medical Center with broken bones and other injuries.

Fuller told The Randolph Leader newspaper that John Simons of
Rockmart, Ga., was chased by Bremen police, wrecked and shot
himself after firing shots at officers.

Grant was answering a domestic disturbance call in the northern
part of Randolph County when he saw the suspect's vehicle, stopped
it and was dragged up to 150 feet.
