Double Killing Suspect Captured

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say the suspect in a double killing at a Columbus apartment complex 13 months ago has been captured on the Caribbean island of St. Martin.

Michael Jason Registe is wanted in the shooting of 21-year-old Randy Newton Jr. and 20-year-old Bryan Kilgore in the parking lot of Cross Creek Apartments on July 20, 2007. Both were shot in the head at close range.

The 25-year-old Registe was added to the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted list last month. They also increased the award from $20,000 to $100,000.

The FBI and Columbus police said at the time they believed he had fled to the Virgin Islands or elsewhere in the Caribbean.

Columbus Mayor Jim Wetherington confirmed Registe's capture to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer.
