Richmond County Worker Arrested on Peeping Charge

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A Richmond County maintenance worker has been arrested after being accused of drilling peepholes in a women's restroom inside the Richmond County Law Enforcement Center.

Jail records show 47-year-old Ricky Leon Merriweather of Hephzibah faces a felony peeping Tom charge.

Sheriff Ronnie Strength says Merriweather is a longtime county employee but not part of his department.

Strength says a female employee noticed two peepholes Tuesday in the ceiling of the restroom in the State Court wing of the Law Enforcement Center. The sheriff says investigators do not know when
the holes were drilled.

A spokeswoman in the jail administrator's office said Wednesday records don't indicate whether Merriweather has an attorney.
