It’s been almost two years in the making.
"You here that it's going to pass this month, and then you don't have anything this month, and then it gets extended, that’s just, that's a terrible way to do business"
The newly compromised farm bill was passed by the US House of Representatives Wednesday and it's now on it's way to the Senate.
But the new bill comes with new rules for farmers.
"It looks like it's a positive for farmers, it also cuts some expense for the tax payers, it's a lot smaller bill and it even includes some cuts to nutrition"
"The direct payment is going away, we've been kind of expecting that but they say they're replacing that with some better insurance. so far what I read, it's going to be a revenue protection type of insurance, that protects you from crops bottoming out, the prices bottoming out"
"Peanuts, we keep our same loan rate in this bill, we are able to raise the target price, meaning if prices get really bad we might qualify for some assistance"
"There’s a lot of things that we probably weren't on our wish list but the stability of having that farm bill, we know what we are dealing with for the next 5 years, that's what's so important"
Farmers agree, and most importantly now they have the rules of the game.
"It’s just good to know that we've got a farm bill and that we've got 5 years of stability"
"We’re very positive that the house passed a farm bill last night, our farmers needed to know what the rules were.
"We don't know how everything is going to work out, we don't know if it's good or bad but hopefully we'll be able to take it and make it good"
