CATTLE

Direct Trade:
In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas, Texas/Oklahoma; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota; Trading was inactive in the Texas Panhandle, slow with light to moderate demand in all other feeding regions. Compared to Tuesday, few live sales in Kansas sold .50 to 1.00 higher from 85.00 to 85.50. In Nebraska, few live clean up sales sold .50 to 1.00 higher at 85.50. Not enough sales in other regions to establish an adequate market test.

Steers: Live basis; (all Grades: 1,973 head) 81.00-85.50, weighted average price 85.13. Dressed basis; (all Grades: 1,299 head) 131.00-134.00, weighted average price 132.67. Heifers: live basis; (all Grades: 1,852 head) 83.00-85.50, weighted average 85.22. Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 264 head) 130.00-132.00, weighted average 131.03.

Tama, IA Slaughter Cattle Auction Receipts: 1279 Compared to last week: Choice steers and heifers .50-.75 higher. Slaughter Steers Choice 2-4 1175-1500 lbs 76.00-82.35. Select and Choice 2-3 1100-1300 lbs 78.00-80.75.

Compared to last week slaughter steers and heifers sold 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Holsteins too few to test. Buyer attendance good with good to very good demand. Several loads purchased for CME deliveries. Many load lots in today's offering. Slaughter cows mostly steady.

Slaughter Steers: Choice 2-3 1225-1475 lbs 80.60-83.00. Choice 3-4 1335- 1435 lbs 80.35-81.75, 1500-1640 lbs 76.75-79.20. Returning to the country for contracts 1170-1535 lbs 79.50-82.00. Select and Choice 2-3 1350-1395 lbs 80.00- 81.25.
