Florida Nuclear Plant Application

Posted: 01/16/2009 - The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the public can now peruse the paperwork filed by a north Florida nuclear plant trying to get its operating license renewed. The application for renewal of a 20-year license for the Crystal River nuclear plant is now available on the Internet. There's also a copy at the public library in Crystal River, which is on Florida's Gulf coast about 80 miles north of Tampa. The NRC says the plant's owner, Progress Energy, filed the application last month. The current license expires in 2016. Progress Energy is planning to build two more nuclear plants near the Crystal River facility by 2018.
