On Saturday, November 27, 2010 at approximately 5:40 pm the Jackson County Sheriff's Office received a call from 5016 Ford Road in Greenwood, FL. The call was in reference to a death and potential homicide.
The initial responding units on scene discovered an apparent homicide. Upon this discovery investigators with the Sheriff’s Office were contacted and so began an investigation that would continue nonstop for more than 24 hours. Sheriff’s Deputies began speaking to those in the community in an attempt to develop leads and eventually a suspect.
While speaking with neighbors, it was discovered that one neighbor had observed a suspicious vehicle at the victims residence during the time frame that the murder was believed to have occurred. It was through this information that a suspect was developed. Others in the community had in the recent past observed John Wayne Lincoln driving a vehicle meeting the description of the suspect vehicle.
Through the information developed contact was made with John Wayne Lincoln at his residence on Old US Road near Malone, Florida. John Lincoln had been a suspect in several burglaries in the Malone area.
Through further investigation an additional person of interest was developed. It was determined that John Wayne Lincoln and the person of interest went to the residence on Ford Road in an attempt to burglarize the residence. It was during this attempted burglary that the victim confronted her attackers and was eventually overtaken and murdered.
Only hours before the burglary and murder took place investigations revealed that John Wayne Lincoln and King Edward Sherman together burglarized a residence located on Bates Road near Greenwood, Florida. It was during this burglary that a television and several items of jewelry were taken. As the investigation continued the television was located.
John Wayne Lincoln was placed under arrest charged with an open count of murder and home invasion robbery resulting from the incident that occurred on Ford Road. King Edward Sherman was placed under arrest for burglary and dealing in stolen property. Both Lincoln and Sherman are housed in the Jackson County Jail awaiting first appearance on their charges.
As the investigations into both cases continue, additional charges against both subjects could be pending.
Through statements made by Lincoln it is believed that both he and Sherman are involved in both of these cases as well as additional cases that have occurred in the Malone area in the recent weeks.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Department of Corrections K-9 Tracking Teams, Medical Examiner’s Office for the 14th Judical, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Posse and Reserve Deputies and State Attorney’s Office 14th Judicial Circuit were all actively involved in the investigation.
