OCALA, Fla. (AP) -- A north Florida woman has been sentenced to life in prison for killing her 2-year-old adopted daughter.
A Marion County judge sentenced 38-year-old Violet Ray on Tuesday.
She was found guilty by a jury in May of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and child neglect.
The Ocala Star-Banner reports that Faith Ray died of a lethal head injury in December 2008.
Prosecutors say Violet Ray beat the child and then neglected to call 911.
A defense attorney argued that the head injury was caused by a fall, not by Ray.
