Washington Co. Sheriff Seeks Volunteers

Washington County Sheriff Bobby Haddock has announced that the Washington County Sheriff's Office will be seeking volunteers to participate in an all volunteer program to help make our county a safer place to live.

“The Public Service Officer (PSO) program will be used to augment the patrol efforts of our deputies”, Sheriff Haddock stated. “They will provide us with extra eyes and ears and will assist us in many other areas of responsibility as well”, Sheriff Haddock added.

Initially, WCSO will select from a pool of interested volunteers and then determine who are qualified as candidates. Volunteers will be screened, must complete a background check and should be capable of performing the duties expected of them. Once selected, PSO candidates must successfully complete the required training curriculum.

Some of the initial duties they will perform will be visibility patrol, assisting with traffic and crowd control, welfare checks and special events. All necessary equipment will be provided to the volunteers who will be expected to perform a required number of hours each month. PSO’s will not be sworn law enforcement personnel and therefore will not be responding to or handling any potentially dangerous calls for service. Primarily, they will provide those services which are essential to public safety that deputies are already doing, freeing up our personnel for more serious law enforcement duties.

This has been a successful program in many other counties in the State of Florida. “Volunteers have always been a vital part of our community in many ways”, Sheriff Haddock said. “This will simply be another way in which qualified residents of Washington County will be able to participate in something that is vital to the safety of our citizens”, Sheriff Haddock concluded.

Interested parties should contact the Washington County Sheriff's Office at 638-6069 for additional information.

Yall don't need any volunteers like George Zimmerman !! We need the county to be safer but we don't need for anyone to shoot someone. Just drive around and WATCH, don't engage a suspect.See something that's not right, call the cops.
