The American Red Cross in cooperation with the Washington County EOC and in response to the ongoing flooding event is relocating the evacuation shelter today from the Agriculture Center in Chipley to the Abigail Freewill Baptist Church in Vernon. The shelter will be staffed and ready to meet the needs of the affected public. Cots, blankets, and food are available.
A shelter has been available since July 3 for families displaced by the floods. To date no one has presented themselves for assistance. Due to the cost of maintaining shelters and the potential for needs into the coming week the shelter will be open until 7 p.m. on July 5. If no one presents for sheltering at that time the shelter will stand down and be available as new needs occur.
If you have any questions concerning sheltering you may contact the American Red Cross at 850-381-3820 or the Washington County EOC at 850-638-6203.
