DESTIN, FL -- Okaloosa County and Walton County officials are seeing a rash of thefts on boats.
They said the culprits have been targeting large charter boats on the ocean, as well as boats in residents' homes. The thieves have been taking fishing rods, reels and tackle.
They encourage all boat owners to take necessary precautions to keep their items safe.
"We know it's a little bit of an inconvenience because you want to have your boat, you want to have your reels and things there and not have to worry about it but for right now, let's play it safe," Walton County Sheriff's Office Catherine Rodriguez said. "Lock up your valuable items."
