A 16-year old Fort Walton Beach resident died late Wednesday night following an apparent drowning.

Deputies say Alex Hill of 702 Standish Lane in Fort Walton Beach was at a pool party with friends at 15 Japonica Lane in Shalimar yesterday around 4 p.m. when someone noticed him motionless at the bottom of the pool. Friends initially thought it was a prank but when they went down to nudge him, soon realized it was not.

Hill was pulled from the bottom and CPR began immediately.

He was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola but attempts to save him failed and he was pronounced dead shortly after eleven p.m.

Investigators say based on witness statements and the evidence at the scene, it’s believed Hill, who was last noticed on a raft in the deep end of the pool, may have struck his head on the side, leading to an accidental drowning.
