Chipley—Construction crews will begin working next week on a $1.9 million project to construct improvements along State Road (S.R.) 79 between County Road (C.R.) 388 in West Bay and U.S. 98 in Panama City Beach.
The work will include installing a new traffic signal at the S.R. 79/County Road 388 intersection, constructing sidewalks from C.R. 388 to the B.V. Buchanan Bridge, and installing five miles of fiber optic cable for expansion of the county’s Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) network.
Most of the work will occur off the roadway and not impact traffic. However, some short-term lane closures will be needed when the traffic signal is installed. Access to businesses and other private properties along S.R. 79 will be maintained at all times.
The project is scheduled for completion summer 2014.
All planned construction activities are weather dependent and may be re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
