JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a truck driver died after being hit by a Jacksonville police officer responding to another crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that Officer Charles Reagor was responding to an accident with injuries Wednesday morning when he hit 33-year-old Alain L. Martin.
The Florida Times-Union reports that the officer's emergency lights were flashing, but it wasn't immediately clear if his siren was on.
An FHP spokesman says Martin was stepping out from behind a trailer and apparently didn't see the patrol car. FHP says Reagor took evasive action but failed to avoid the collision.
Martin was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
Reagor, a 23-year veteran with the sheriff's office, wasn't injured.
