Okaloosa County has established a RESTORE Act Advisory Committee consisting of 11 members. Four members are being sought to fill the following categories on the advisory committee: one environmental, one tourism/hospitality and two citizens at large. Anyone interested in these positions can download an application, by visiting www.okaloosafl.com and select the RESTORE Act link on the home page, or follow this link: http://www.co.okaloosa.fl.us/restore_act.html.

The Resources and Ecosystems Sustainability, Tourist Opportunities and Revived Economies (RESTORE) Act was enacted by the United States Congress in direct response to the Deep Horizon Oil Spill. On March 5, 2013, the Okaloosa Board of County Commissioners adopted a Resolution to establish the Okaloosa RESTORE Act Advisory Committee for the purpose of assisting the Board in determining valid projects, and also providing assistance in determining the projects that qualify under the RESTORE Act. The committee will implement a multiyear plan that sets clear goals and metrics to measure success for all projects.

The composition of the RESTORE Act Advisory Committee includes: one member recommended by the Niceville and Fort Walton Beach Chambers of Commerce, one member recommended by the League of Cities from Crestview and Destin, one member from Okaloosa County School Board, one member from the Charter Boat Association, one member from the Economic Development Council, one each from the aforementioned tourism industry and environmental community, and two at large citizens, bringing the total membership to 11.

To download an application, or for additional details concerning the Advisory Committee criteria, direction and requirements, review the Okaloosa County Resolution on the RESTORE Act web page. The RESTORE Act web page will provide information and updates throughout the RESTORE process. Feel free to call 850-651-7105 for more information or contact any Okaloosa County Commissioner.
