WALTON COUNTY, FL -- The Walton County Sheriff's Department is making strides in becoming more technologically savvy.
Their new emergency notification system alerts residents in an emergency situation as soon as something happens.
To sign up just go online to the Walton County Sheriff Department's website.
Find the bottom icon on the right hand side of the screen that says Hyper Reach Notification.
After clicking, fill out your address information.
Finally choose how you want to be notified in the event of an emergency in your area from text, email or a phone call.
This information is what the sheriff's department will use to alert you in a time of emergency.
Officers said this tool will allow information to get to residents immediately.
"It's a community awareness tool with social media, you know we want to be proactive, Public Information Officer Catherine Rodriguez said. "As soon as we find out that emergency responders are on scene we want to get that information out as quickly as possible."
The system will also alert residents when there is severe weather in their area.
