A Florida mother of three will spend a mandatory 20-years in prison for firing a warning shot in front of her ex-husband and his two children.
31-year-old Marissa Alexander testified that her ex-husband was abusive and was threatening to kill her.
So she fired a shot into the air to protect herself in august of 2010.
Florida has a "stand your ground law" which has come under scrutiny since the killing of Trayvon Martin.
Wiping away tears, she begged the judge for leniency, but the 20-year sentence offers no hope for parole.
Alexander's attorneys are fighting for a new trial.
