PANAMA CITY BEACH-- For many vacationers, Memorial Day weekend means the beginning of summer. And the beginning of summer means, time to hit the beach.
"You can see that we have beautiful weather and that certainly helps for Memorial Day weekend and it's our unofficial kick-off to our season where we have so many families coming from all over the United States coming to see our beautiful beaches." said Susan Estler, of Bay County Tourist Development Council.
And for Panama City beach, tourism is important. It's what keeps the city thriving.
"We have done advertising during the spring time to try to get families to come down here. We certainly want to have visitors coming here to Panama City Beach." said Estler.
And for local businesses, this season is definitely the busiest. And what a welcome time it is.
"We've been getting lots, and lots, and lots of families and teenagers. It's wonderful!" said Christine McLaughlin, Manager of Hooked Bar and Grill.
Tourists themselves are just as excited at the thought. And they come for many reasons.
"We're gonna rent a pontoon boat tomorrow and do some parasailing."
"We're here to enjoy the beaches and we come down to Panama City all the time and it has the most beautiful beaches I think in all of the world."
"But with so many families on vacation this Memorial Day weekend and a tropical storm in our midst, some might wonder about safety concerns."
"We rely upon the weather staying good but so far so good this year. It seems to always skirt around us." said McLaughlin.
So get ready for some fun in the sun.
