Residents living on or near McCauley Road in Baker and interested citizens are invited to attend a meeting to discuss the use of a Municipal Service Taxing Unit (MSTU), for private roadway improvements. The community meeting will be held at the Baker Recreation Center on May 30, at 6:00 p.m. Commissioner Boyles and the Public Works Department will host the meeting and be on hand to answer questions about the MSTU process.
Residents living along the private unpaved road have requested the establishment of the MSTU, which would create an assessment where property owners would contribute annually until sufficient funds were accrued to pave the roadway. Once the necessary funding is obtained, the road could then be paved and placed into the County Maintenance Program and the MSTU would be dissolved.
A majority of owners of property to be located in the MSTU must petition to have the MSTU created. If created, the McCauley Road MSTU could be the first successful use of this type of funding mechanism to pave a road in Okaloosa County and could serve as a model for future road projects, where the roadway is not currently under county maintenance.
