A huge sink hole is wreaking havoc on A Florida family's backyard and forcing the 30-year residents and some of their neighbors out.
Vic Micolucci reports.
"scary, it's scary it is."
All day long, people like Linda rush and her grandson have been coming by just to see it. A massive sinkhole
In this Western Alachua County backyard. It's estimated to be 80 feet by 40 feet...and growing.
"My thing is is it gonna spread? Is it gonna continue to open up?"
Luckily, no one's been hurt. The only victims, some things sitting in the backyard and a lot of grass.
This shed though is teetering over...it's future uncertain. But the hole has essentially claimed the this entire property.
The home a family's lived in for more than 30 years is now condemned... Deemed unsafe to live in. They've already moved out...
"Well I went down about 6 o clock yesterday where the sinkhole is and was grilling to the right of the steps and now my grill is in the bottom of the sinkhole."
"It's a hole in a the ground. A big hole but a hole in the ground."
Lloyd Vipperman lives across the street but he's not too concerned about his property. He says they're just part of nature.
"Sinkholes are a part of living like Florida. Kind of like snakes. You gotta understand they're around but insure against them and do the best you can."
