Man Gets Life for Strangling Girlfriend at Motel

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- A central Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for strangling his girlfriend at an extended-stay motel.

An Orange County judge sentenced 55-year-old Carl Vance on Friday after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder.

Authorities say Vance used a telephone cord to choke 50-year-old Connie Asbury inside a motel room in February 2010.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that authorities found Asbury's body in a shower stall with clothing and food thrown on top of her. Prosecutors say Vance killed her during a drug binge.

Vance denied the charges when he took the stand Wednesday. He said Asbury was dead when he arrived at the motel room.
