On Thursday April 10, 2014 approximately 11:54 am the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to Brandon Earl Tyus, who is incarcerated at the Jackson County Correctional Facility.
Tyus had reportedly escaped while he was working as a trustee at the Division of Driver License, 3613 Hwy 90 Marianna.
Tyus was currently serving a sentence for violation of probation on possession of marijuana under 20 grams at the time of his escape.
The investigation revealed Tyus had stolen an employee’s car keys while collecting trash from an office and then stole the employee’s 2009 Toyota.
It was learned Tyus might be traveling to Washington County.
An extensive search was initiated by members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and assisted by the Office of 14th Judicial Circuit’s State Attorney’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Cottondale Police Department, Chipley Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Tyus was observed driving the stolen car eastbound on Cypress Creek Road by a Jackson County Deputy.
Tyus then turned north onto Sapp Road and traveled north until he was blocked by another deputy just south of the intersection of Corbin Road. Tyus then ran from the car on foot westbound into a wooded area parallel to Corbin Road.
The Appalachee and Jackson Correctional Institution canine teams responded and deployed the tracking dogs. After a short time, Tyus was located at approximately 2:17 pm. Tyus was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
