The Bay County Sheriff's Office arrested registered sexual predator Charles Edward Cannon on Sunday, December 9, 2012, in connection to a home invasion robbery yesterday morning.
At about 8:30 a.m. deputies responded to a home on Highway 388 in reference to a burglary in progress. When they arrived, the suspect was no longer in the home. The victim, an elderly woman, told deputies she heard a noise at the back door and came out of a room in the home into her bedroom and came face to face with a man she described as a tall, slender, soft spoken black male dressed in dark clothing.
The victim stated the man grabbed her and turned her away from him, telling her not to look at his face. He was not wearing a mask or anything to hide his features. He demanded she give him her money. The woman took cash she had in her purse and gave it to him. He then helped her into her bed, demanding she lay on her side facing away from him, admonishing her again not to look at him. The victim believes he then went through her dresser drawers to find any valuables. The victim believed the man entered her home at about 7:30 a.m. and left at about 8:00 a.m.
Deputies made contact with the clerk at a nearby convenience store who remembered seeing a young black male on a bicycle matching the description given by the victim. The suspect stopped at the store to buy a pack of cigarettes and was captured on the store security cameras. The man appeared to be registered sexual predator Charles Edward Cannon who was known to live not far from the store and the home of the victim.
BCSO Criminal Investigators and deputies made contact with Charles Edward Cannon at the Youngstown Motel at 12434 Highway 231, Cannon's registered address. Cannon allowed deputies into his room and there was an amount of cash in a dish by the door and dark clothes matching the description given by the victim of the man in her home. Cannon, DOB 7/14/77, was arrested and charged with Battery, Home Invasion Robbery, and False Imprisonment.
