The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an armed robbery and shooting that took place near a Lovejoy Road business in the Fort Walton Beach area Tuesday night, (October 22nd).

27-year old Levi Jernigan says he was entering his business, American Wholesale, at 515 Lovejoy Road around 10:30 last night when he was approached by two black males wearing dark clothing and masks.

Jernigan says one of the men pulled out a handgun and demanded his backpack. Jernigan however began to step back and run away when he was shot in the back. The robbers took Jernigan’s backpack and fled.

Jernigan flagged down a motorist on Lovejoy Road and asked to be taken to the hospital. The driver was en route when he spotted two Fort Walton Beach Police officers at the nearby Chevron station and stopped for help. Jernigan was later taken by medical helicopter to a Pensacola hospital where at last report he was doing well.

A search of the surrounding area did not turn up any immediate suspects.

The OCSO is asking anyone with information on the armed robbery and shooting to call 850-651-7400 or contact Emerald Coast Crimestoppers at 850-863-TIPS.
