Bay County, Fla. — The Bay County Community Health Task Force Dental Strategic Planning Committee continues to move forward with the dental portion of the Veterans Stand Down event by providing dental treatment to veterans on Friday, October 12, 2012, at the Bay County Health Department’s Children’s Dentistry Clinic. Immediate dental care will be provided to those veterans who have been screened and approved for treatment during the previous events. Treatment will include dental hygiene, restorations, tooth extraction, or full mouth extractions in preparation for denture placement. Volunteers from the Bay Dental Society and our local dental community (i.e. volunteer dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, and dental students) will aid in delivery of these services, free of charge.
Joint efforts between the Bay Dental Society, Gulf Coast State College Dental Programs and Bay County Health Department Dentistry Clinic made the dental screenings and provisions of immediate dental care for this target population possible. Interested veterans signed up during the Veterans Stand Down event and were offered free transportation (courtesy of Bay Town Trolley) in order to take advantage of the free dental screenings and treatment.
The Dental Strategic Planning Committee is comprised of representatives from various agencies in the community (Agency on HealthCare, Gulf Coast State College, Bay Dental Society, Early Education and Care, Bay County Health Department, etc.). These groups of professionals collaborate monthly to identify and increase access to populations in Bay County who are in need of dental care. This year, the Dental Strategic Planning Committee has collaborated with Veterans Stand Down in order to offer urgent dental care to our military veterans.
