Four active cases of TB are currently affecting the Bay County, Florida area.
Two of those cases are receiving court ordered treatment at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
Doctors have perfomed Direct Observed Therapy (DOT) on 8 individuals (this includes latent as well as active cases). DOT is where staff watch patients take their medication to ensure treatment is effective.
Since January, there has been 21 reported cases of exposure to TB but no disease was found. This is referred to as Latent TB Infection (LTBI).
People with LTBI cannot spread TB to others and are not thought to be contagious.
