Florida Man Arrested for Distribution, Sale, Possession of Synthetic Marijuana

On Monday, September 12, 2011, the Jackson County Drug Task Force arrested Michael Wayne Henry, 50, of Greenwood, Florida as part of an ongoing investigation into the distribution, sale, and possession of Synthetic Marijuana in Jackson County Florida. Henry is the owner and operator of a cigarette distribution business known as SB&T Wholesale Distribution and former owner and operator of Mike’s Git-N-GO and the Y Liquor Store located in Greenwood, Florida.

Along with tobacco products, Henry has also been a wholesale distributor of thousands of packages of Synthetic Marijuana in the Florida Panhandle in the past eight months. During the coarse of the investigation it was determined that Henry was distributing Synthetic Marijuana to stores in Panama City, Chipley, and Crestview.

On July 27, 2011 the Jackson County Drug Task Force seized in excess of 800 packages of different varieties of Synthetic Marijuana products from Henry. Varieties of Synthetic Marijuana being distributed by Henry included names such as Kush, TKO One Hitter Quitter, TKO Round 2, Impact, Solution, Mojo Diamond, Nola Diamond, Wicked, Chinese Pills, Wig Splitter, Voodoo, Barely Legal, and more. Some of these varieties were also marked as flavors including Watermelon, Green Apple, Strawberry, Blueberry, and Cotton candy. Henry was purchasing his supply of Synthetic Marijuana from an individual only known to Henry as “Rahim” in Houston, Texas.

The Florida Department of Law Enforement analized the different varieties of Synthetic Marijuana possessed by Henry. Those varieties were found to contain the synthetic substances JWH-018, JWH-210 and AM-2201. Those substances are controlled substances outlined in the same statues as real Marijuana, Cocaine, and Heroin and are equally harmful and illegal as well. These substances are synthetic and are added to the plant material in the packages. It is these chemicals that are causing illness to individuals who smoke the drugs.

Henry’s inventory, if made available to consumers, would be valued in excess of $14,000. Although labeling on these products warns against human consumption and warnings about not burning the products they are being marketed and sold to smoke with values that sometimes exceed the costs of conventional street drugs.

Henry was placed under arrest and housed in the Jackson County Jail to await first appearance on charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute, JWH-018, Possession with Intent to Distribute AM-2201, and Possession with Intent to Distribute, JWH-210.

Any person found to be selling, distributing, or possessing with the intention of distributing or using Synthetic Marijuana in Jackson County, Florida will be dealt with to the greatest extent of the law.
