Florida News: Officer Arrested in Illegal Gun Sales; Manatee 'Threatened'

MIAMI (AP) -- A South Florida police officer and his wife are facing charges of illegally selling hundreds of weapons over the Internet and at gun shows. Hialeah police officer Rafael Oscar Valdes and Tammy Lynn Valdes are accused of selling at least 100 firearms over the Internet to people in 44 states since 2005.
STUART, Fla. (AP) -- A conservative legal group is asking the federal government to strip the manatee of its endangered species status. The Pacific Legal Foundation represents Citrus County business owners who say federal restrictions harm the fishing and tourism industries on a bay where manatees gather for the winter.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- State wildlife officials say vehicle strikes are responsible for most of the 25 Florida panther deaths this year. Seventeen panthers were killed by vehicles. The Florida panther once roamed across the Southeast. Now just 100 to 160 remain.
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (AP) -- The father of Matt Bush, a former pitcher in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, says the baseball player is expected to agree to a plea deal in a DUI crash that injured a motorcyclist. Bush faces multiple DUI-related charges, along with charges of leaving the scene of the March 22 accident.
