LARGO, Fla. (AP) -- Pinellas County Sheriff's Bob Gualtieri says his agency will begin a criminal investigation into the actions of four former detectives accused of trespassing to gather evidence against indoor marijuana growers.

Three of the detectives resigned earlier in June and the fourth was fired Thursday.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that 93 officers were questioned under oath during a three-month internal affairs investigation of the narcotics unit.

The sheriff says no evidence emerged that any other deputies were involved.

The Times reports prosecutors have already dropped 18 pending cases and are reviewing charges against about two dozen others who pleaded guilty, were convicted or accepted plea deals.

Michael Sciarrino, Paul Giovannoni and Christopher Taylor resigned their positions. Kyle Alston was fired.
