TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Something will have to give for lawmakers to get reforms to Florida's personal injury protection (PIP) law before Friday's adjournment.

The Senate passed a measure Wednesday that has major differences with legislation passed in the House. The two chambers differ on a time limit for accident victims to file claims but agreed that massage therapists and acupuncture would not be eligible for medical reimbursements.

The PIP bill (HB 119) passed the Senate on a 39-1 vote without debate with Sen. Arthenia Joyner the lone dissenter.

Lawmakers have attempted without success for years to crack down on the fraud that has led to skyrocketing rates for Florida drivers. Florida is among a handful of states with PIP, designed to ensure that anyone hurt in a wreck could seek timely medical treatment.
