Fla. Boy Bitten by Rattlesnake

LAKE MARY, Fla. (AP) -- A child is recovering after being bitten by a rattlesnake in central Florida.

Lake Mary Police said the unidentified 9-year-old had just arrived at church with his mother Friday when he reached into a patch of grass and was bitten on the finger.

The Orlando Sentinel reports the pygmy rattlesnake was about 10 inches long. It was killed with a shovel.

The boy was treated at a hospital. A church administrator told police that the child appeared to be doing well and the snake may not have injected any venom.

Thank God for small favors. Hope the child will be alright, those little snakes are just as dangerous as a big one. It's hot and they are out seeking shade and water. You need to trim up that patch of grass real short.
