TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida Republicans continue to outraise the state's Democrats despite Democratic success at the polls.

Campaign reports filed on Thursday showed that the Republican Party of Florida raised nearly $2.2 million in cash donations, while the Florida Democratic Party took in just over $424,000.

The reports cover money taken in by the parties from Nov. 2 until Dec. 31.

A large amount donated to Republicans came from GOP elected officials.

House Speaker Will Weatherford steered $640,000 from a political committee he controls, while Senate President Don Gaetz donated $70,000 from his re-election account.

Some of the major donors to the parties include companies such as Disney, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and Florida Power & Light. Private prison vendor The GEO Group donated more than $50,000 to Republicans.
